Contact lenses come in a variety of forms, from soft daily disposables to hard reusable lenses. Whichever option you choose, these tips should ensure your lenses are comfortable and effective at all times:
1. Always handle them with clean hands. Even if you’re removing disposable lenses, clean and dry hands prevent impurities coming into contact with your eyes.
2. Insert lenses before applying skincare products. Once they’re inserted, you can safely apply make-up, or put on moisturiser/suncream (avoiding around the eyes).
3. Give the lenses a moment to settle after insertion. Ensure each lens fits comfortably and is providing sharp vision before going about your business.
4. Always use fresh saline to rinse lenses. Tap water isn’t sterile because it contains microbes which might contaminate lenses or cases. We sell impurity-free saline solutions.
5. Only clean reusable lenses with recommended solutions. Don’t use these solutions beyond their expiry date, and replace lens cases regularly to prevent germs building up.
6. Wear non-prescription sunglasses. Even contact lenses with integrated UV filters don’t provide total protection against UV light, so sunglasses are advisable in bright conditions.
7. Enquire about multifocal contact lenses. Older patients might benefit from multifocal lenses which offer support at near and far distances alike.
8. Invest in eye drops. Your eyes may feel dry while wearing lenses. We stock eye drops suitable for various lens types, keeping your eyes hydrated and comfortable.
9. Invest in swimming goggles. If you want to wear contacts in the pool, tight-fitting goggles should prevent impurities in the water reaching your eyes.
10. Have regular eye tests. Contact lenses will be less effective if your sight changes. Our optometrists will recommend the optimal prescription for your vision right now.
